HAPPY NAIDOC WEEK!

Naidoc 2016 logo

NAIDOC Week is a special time of year to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history,

culture and achievements and the contributions that Indigenous Australians make to our country.

NAIDOC stands for

National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee.

Aboriginal culture is so important to who we are as a nation.  We have so much to learn from our indigenous brothers and sisters.

Thank you for sharing your culture, knowledge and land with us.  I feel truly honoured to be able to share this land with you all.

I headed down to the NAIDOC celebrations in Port Macquarie today.  There was a huge turnout with lots of kids and families.  It was beautiful to see the Djiyagan Dhanbaan, Strong Sister Movement  open up the day with dance and song in the local Biripi language, with lots of folks in the audience singing along.  Following the girls and women’s songs were the male Badu Dancers, entertaining and educating the crowd with traditional dances and stories.

After each group had finished performing, I did a quick 30 second shoot with some of the group members.  The photos are below.
